Happy Guru Purnima!
Last night I caught my mind darting to the past and fretting about the future.
My body tensed; restless and uneasy.
So I stepped outside to watch the moon rise.
She’s so much brighter tonight, I thought.
I glanced around at the white orchid hanging on her long stem, fleshy succulents, fragrant rosemary, taro and golden-orange marigolds I recently planted.

I heard wind sway banana branches and crickets rubbing their stubbly little legs to sing songs of love.
I inhaled deeply then stretched my body; rubbed my own legs together, just to see.
I didn’t want to forget the sweetness of the now.
Or the teachers in my heart.
Guru Purnima is a time to express gratitude not only to academic teachers, parents or guides, but also to the guru inside us.
Gurus remove the darkness of ignorance and light up our journeys.
According to some schools of thought, Shiva (Adiguru), the OG creator of yoga, is the living presence in every being; our primal self, inner consciousness behind thoughts, emotions and experiences, guru of our hearts, higher minds and sacred essence.

Gurus help us illuminate the path, the power of practice and wisdom in our lives.
This potent, pretty full moon invites us to turn inward, to invite dimensionless, unchanging awareness, clarity and peace.
To harness positive vibes, purify and align. To honor what has lit our lives with wonder.
The full moon’s radiance amplifies blessings and teachings. Rays of the moon on this day are said to be sacred. So go bathe in them!
Each moment is an opportunity to quietly observe and create reality. And to give thanks to every teacher.
