Life, Death, Pumpkin Seeds

life and deathHalloween was once a festival that marked the boundaries between life and death.

Edgar Allan Poe said, “The boundaries which divide Life from Death are at best shadowy and vague. Who shall say where the one ends, and where the other begins?”

Why not live with the kind of passion that brings your body and mind back to radiant life? I fear not living fully much more than I fear death. It is always a perfect time for eliminating whatever isn’t serving us or stuff we’re merely tolerating that drains our energy. This creates space for our passions!

Everything is constantly evolving and changing. Whether it be tragedy or ecstacy from outside sources, or a shift within ourselves. How will we let it affect us and will we fight it or honor it?

“Everything is a vehicle for our transformation” -Ram Dass (I love him!).

We ALL have miserable days and amazing days. How can we appreciate the balance and go with the flow? The Sufi tradition tells the story of a king surrounded by wise men. One day the king felt confused. “At times I am overcome by melancholy, and feel powerless to fulfill my duties. At others, I am dizzy with all power I have.” He requested the wise men to help him find peace with himself. They spent a long time in discussion and in the end, delivered a gift to the king. It was a ring with magic words engraved. The wise men told the king, “Whenever you feel too confident or too sad, read the inscription”. It said, “This will pass.”

Dwelling keeps us stuck and weighs us down. Psychologists call it ruminating. It’s like spinning your wheels in mud trying to get out. Also, orange is a symbol of strength and endurance and black is associated with darkness. Kinda like gu(dark) ru(light)!  Ahhh balance.

I genuinely honor all the people, pets and things I have lost.

Dr. Seuss said, “Don’t cry because it’s over, smile because it happened.”

On a lighter note- pumpkin seeds are a great source of zinc and are loaded with antioxidants, magnesium, and fiber and even help depression.
